The 2008-09 U-15/16 Development Academy Conference Starting XI and Coaches of the Year have been unveiled as Development Academy Finals Week is set to kick off on Saturday, July 10, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. All awards were voted upon by Development Academy clubs and national staff coaches. A total of 44 players were selected to the four Conference teams, including, with 29 different clubs represented, 16 will be participating in Finals Week.

South Carolina United FC Announces Academy Initiative Program For U14 Boys

Beginning with the Fall 2009 season, South Carolina United FC will be offering a U14 Academy Initiative Program in conjunction with its existing U16 and U18 US Development Academy Program.   The U14 Academy Initiative Program will consist of pooling the best ’95 and ’96 players from across the state. 

Registered through US Club Soccer with South Carolina United FC, these players will engage in training sessions and match play under the guidance and supervision of the South Carolina United FC coaching staff and otherwise participate in curriculum and competition as implemented by the United States Soccer Federation’s US Development Academy Leadership. While final plans are still in progress, it is anticipated that all U14 Academy Initiative players selected will compete in 8-12 matches against teams from other U.S. Development Academy club’s Initiative programs throughout the 2009/2010 season which will be scheduled around the players’ home clubs’ regular activities as best can be accommodated.  It is anticipated that matches will be played mid-November thru February.  It is also anticipated that U14 Academy Initiative Pool will train together 1–3 times a week depending on the time of the year. 

South Carolina United FC will be hosting an initial Tryout and Informational meeting on June 6th 2-4pm at the BB&T Soccer Complex, Ballentine SC.  An additional Tryout and Informational meeting will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2009, from 2-4 pm at the BB&T Soccer Complex in Ballentine, SC.  All male players born in 1995 or 1996 are eligible to attend tryouts regardless of current USYSA club affiliation.  The U14 Academy Initiative Program is supplemental to a player’s regular SCYSA team club participation.  Tryouts are free of charge as long as you pre-register online.

Justin Watson called up to play with U18 MNT in Portugal
Watson is one of four forwards selected

CHICAGO (May 8, 2008) — The U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team is set to travel to Portugal later this month, heading across the Atlantic Ocean for games against Finland, Germany and Portugal. Head coach Mike Matkovich has called in 18 players for the trip, which will commence on May 22.

The U.S. will face Finland on May 27, before meeting Germany on May 28. The U-18s will finish the round-robin tournament by matching up with hosts Portugal on May 30.
