Columbia United FC congratulates Joey Demare of its 91 Boys Elite team for being selected as a member of the Region III 92 Boys ODP team that traveled to Barcelona, Spain to compete in the International Festival February 23 through March 2.
Rob Strickland, 91 Boys Elite coach, says, "This is a fantastic personal achievement for Joey who is also coming off a very successful Region III Premier League fall season for our team, which saw him play consistently well for our club. To some this can be considered a ’once in a lifetime’ trip that will expose him to the highest level of soccer. I am hopeful for Joey that this will be the start of many such trips! Joey is homegrown, having come up through our recreational and select programs as a young boy. He has the potential to be a great soccer player in college and beyond, and we are all most proud of him."
Region III 92 ODP Boys Head Coach Trevor Adair of Clemson University will lead the team as they compete against the top youth programs in Spain, including FC Barcelona and Espanyol.
Upon his return, Joey will continue his play with the Chapin High School Varsity team and will also rejoin the 91 Boys Elite team as they begin preparations for the upcoming USYSA Region III Regional Championships to be held this June in Raleigh, NC. The team earned the right to participate in the tournament as a result of capturing Columbia United FC’s first ever Region III Premier League East Championship, the most competitive and prestigious youth league available in which qualifying SCYSA member clubs can compete.
Good luck, Joey! You make our club proud!
