Richland County Sheriff's Department Support of South Carolina United FC

As your Sheriff it is important to me that you know what crimes are occurring and what you can do to prevent it.  Recently, there have been several car break-ins, in and around the soccer facilities.  With this in mind I am asking that supporters and participants of South Carolina FC be extra vigilant.  If you see something or someone suspicious please call 911 immediately.  Please do not leave valuables inside of your vehicle; especially in plain view.  Criminals look for an opportunity to make us a victim – let’s not give them the chance.

The Sheriff’s Department will continue to partner with South Carolina United in making the program stronger and in making sure you have a safe environment to play and watch the great game of soccer.  I ask two things of you as parents and coaches.  Look out for one another as you go to and from the soccer fields while keeping an eye out for suspicious activity.  Also, stay involved.  If you see an opportunity to talk with a child about life or soccer take the time to do so.  Be a nosey parent and coach.  Know what the kids are texting about, talking about and who they are hanging out with.  You will be amazed at what you can learn.

Again, if there is a problem, at any of the fields, please call.  Please do not wait to call or think that it is too small of an issue to report - Deputies will get involved and take swift action when appropriate.

For many years, I have had the pleasure of supporting South Carolina United FC with deputies to coach, to advise or to support events and players.  I am excited to see the growth of the club and the efforts of so many to provide positive team oriented environments that are helping to build the future leaders of our communities.  Team sports are so important to the development of our children and South Carolina United’s coaches and staff are providing environments that teach life skills that will keep our children on the right path.   In turn, I will continue my commitment to have deputies work with South Carolina United and if I or any of them can be of assistance to you please contact us at 803-576-3000 or www.rcsd.net.

Sincerely,

Leon Lott
