While in Brussels, Coach Vallee was invited to attend and to be the main speaker at the 3rd International Coaching Colloquium. The Colloquium was hosted by the Royal Belgian Football Association and the Flemmish Football Association. Coach Vallee gave a 45 minute presentation on South Carolina United FC, the Junior Academy, and the youth development within our club and in the United States. Other key note speakers at the colloquium were: the President of the Royal Belgian FA, the Director of Coaching Education for the Belgian FA, the youth academy directors for Feynoord FC (Holland), Hamburg SV (Germany) and RFC Anderlecht (Belgium). The audience was made up of over 600 coaches from Belgium and Holland, whose career experience ranged from amateur youth coaches to first team coaches of the professional teams from Belgium and Holland.

During his visit to Standard Liege in Liege, Belgium Coach Vallee was able to get an in depth and behind the scenes look at how one of the top clubs in the Belgian Premier League is run. He spent 2 days touring and studying the Standard Youth Academy, which is considered one of the best in Europe. He was able to sit down and discuss at length the philosophy and structure of youth development at Standard Liege with the Youth Academy Director of the club. Standard Liege displayed gracious hospitality by allowing Coach Vallee to spend an entire day with the first team staff as they prepared for a match the following day. He was able to speak with the first team coaching staff on playing philosophy, the transfer market, playing in UEFA Cup competitions and losing players to international team duty. While in attendance, at the sold out match on Saturday evening, he was interviewed by one of the leading newspapers in Belgium and also by one of Standard Liege’s local TV stations.
 
In all, Coach Vallee found it a very rewarding experience. He was grateful to have such an opportunity to further his soccer education and share his philosophies with colleagues in youth soccer.

(Oct. 11, 2010) – Six teams from a total of five different clubs earned the first Regional championships of the National Cup X, US Club Soccer’s signature national championship competition, as the Atlanta Regional came to a close Sunday afternoon at Scott Hudgens Park in Duluth, Ga.

Leading the way with a pair of titles was Atlanta Fire United, which claimed championships in the boys' U-13 and girls' U-17 divisions. Winners in the U-13 through U-17 age groups at the Atlanta Regional earned invitations to the National Cup X Finals, to be played in July 2011.

“I’m very proud of all of our teams’ performances this weekend, especially the boys’ U-13 and girls’ U-17 teams for winning Regional championships and the U-16 girls’ team for competing very well while playing up an age group,” said Atlanta Fire United Girls Director of Coaching Mark MacKain. “Overall, the quality of the competition, the outstanding weather and the wonderful facilities in the city of Duluth made for a great event.”

In boys' U-11 action, Georgia Express United knocked off Atlanta Fire United U-11 Gold 1-0 on Sunday to secure the Regional title. Georgia Express had entered the day one point behind Atlanta Fire after a win and a loss on Saturday.

A pair of wins on Sunday for the Concorde Fire Elite boys' U-14 squad propelled the team to the Regional championship. Concorde Fire finished the competition with a perfect 3-0-0 record.

After entering Sunday's action in a three-way tie for first place, South Carolina United ‘94 Elite knocked off its two closest rivals on Sunday to earn the boys' U-16 crown.

In the boys' U-17 division, Darlington School Soccer Academy posted a perfect 3-0-0 record to claim the division title.

The Atlanta Regional marked the first time that the National Cup headed to Atlanta, with the National Cup returning to the Peach State for the first time since 2005, when a Regional was held in Columbus, Ga. While all other National Cup X Regionals will be held in the spring and summer, the Atlanta Regional was the first National Cup Regional event to ever take place during the fall.

Dates, locations and venue announcements for all National Cup X Regionals, as well as the Finals, will be made soon.

National Cup X Regionals are open to U-11 through U-18/19 boys’ and girls’ teams, and two competitive divisions are available. Winners in the U-13 through U-17 age groups from each of the Regionals advance to the National Cup X Finals, where national championships are awarded in two competitive divisions.

Mississippi SEC Women’s Soccer match at Stone Stadium.  Interviewed was Director of Soccer Tripp Miller.  Accepting the award on behalf of the Club was Savannah McCaskill, member of our 95 Girls Elite team and Region III Olympic Development team who promptly passed the beautiful trophy to our next generation of "up and comers" who, as shown above, were extremely excited to hold it high!    Thank you Disney, NSCAA and ESPN!  Your recognition of our Club, its staff, its players, and its volunteers is most appreciated!

US Development Academy Teams Earn 10 out of 12 points this past weekend on the road in Virginia
SC United FC Development Academy teams traveled to Richmond, VA and VA Beach to face their first league games of the 2010-11 Academy Season.

SC United FC players making their Academy debuts included Rex Epps, Ben Gause, Reid Hunter, Josh Jenkins, and Elijah Mboho.   Returning players from last year’s Academy teams include Robbie Cook, Connor Dunbaker, Matt Sieverding, Rob Sullivan, Braeden Troyer and Luke Waechter. Emmett Lunceford, a former Columbia United FC player and former CESA player, also made his debut with the Academy.
Ben Gause made huge saves early against the Richmond Kickers game to keep the 16 team in the game. Rex Epps and Emmett Lunceford scored goals in each of their first games in Academy action. Epps scored in his first 3 minutes of action coming on as a substitute Sunday against VA Rush while Lunceford scored on a neat side scissors volley in his debut.
Connor Dunbaker tallied the only goal for the 16 team in a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Josh Jenkins started in both games for the 16 team playing at center back and in the midfield on Sunday. Elijah Mboho started his first game on Sunday and saw significant minutes Saturday in a defensive midfield role. 1997 born player Reid Hunter saw action in the nets for the final 20 minutes on Sunday against VA Rush.   He may be the youngest player to play in an Academy match to date and certainly for this season. Luke Waechter’s performance over the weekend was solid and did not go unnoticed. He was singled out by US Soccer Academy Scout Chris Brewer as a player to keep an eye on for the 1994 age group.  Braeden Troyer and Robbie Cook put in solid performances at center back both days leading the backline of the 18 team which did not concede a goal all weekend. Matt Sieverding was injured and Rob Sullivan was unable to make the trip this weekend but both should be back in action for Academy next matches.

The US National Team coaches will be attending this event to select the top players for National team participation in future events. The Region III coaches will be selecting their top players to attend the foreign trips scheduled for Spring 2011, as well.  Savannah is one of only two South Carolina female players to be awarded this honor.  We are so proud of you, Savannah!

]]> http://www.southcarolinaunitedfc.com/home/464000.html SCUFC U15 Girls Team wins 2010 Cup Denmark 08/05/2010 11:29 AM http://www.southcarolinaunitedfc.com/home/453212.html A combined U15 SCUFC Girls team traveled overseas in July 2010 to compete in Cup Denmark and came home as champions!  Cup Denmark had 170 teams from 17 different countries and an estimated 3000 participants.  The SCUFC U15 Girls team participated in the U15 age group competing against girls from Sweden, Norway and the Czech Republic.  We played 7 games with 7 shut outs!  This is the only team in the 10 yr history of this tournament to have accomplished this feat. Congratulations girls!

]]> http://www.southcarolinaunitedfc.com/home/420067.html 2010 German Exchange Program 08/02/2010 10:14 PM http://www.southcarolinaunitedfc.com/home/302617.html Every year a team from South Carolina United is selected to participate in the club’s annual International Youth Soccer Cultural Exchange with the German soccer club 1 FFC Montabaur. In spring 2010, a group of U16 German boys came over to stay with South Carolina United FC host families for a cultural exchange.  In summer 2010 a combined U16 South Carolina United Girls’ team visited Germany for a week.  Next summer a U16 Boys’ team will visit during the summer starting that exchange process.  Each year the South Carolina United and FFC Montabaur delegation play for the honor of Sir. Alfred Mueller’s Cup.  The cup match was held in Germany in July during the exchange trip.  The South Carolina United FC girls were once again victorious and brought the Cup home for another year!  For more photos, click German Exchange Program

As the Sheriff’s Department continues to partner with South Carolina United, I ask two things of you as parents and coaches.  One, stay involved.  If you see an opportunity to talk with a child about life or soccer take the time to do so.  Be a nosey parent and coach.  Know what the kids are texting about, talking about and who they are hanging out with.  You will be amazed at what you can learn.  Second, when issues or concern arise please call the Sheriff’s Department immediately.   If you see something suspicious, whether at the fields or in your community, we need you to call right away.  If there is a problem, at any of the fields, please call.  Please do not wait to call or think that it is too small of an issue to report - Deputies will get involved and take swift action when appropriate.
