Introducing Our New Community Soccer Officer!

Columbia United FC is proud to announce the hiring of Colin Kent as the Club’s first Community Soccer Officer. Colin is a 2008 graduate of Lander University where he obtained his B.S. degree in Physical Education, K-12, and served as captain of the men’s soccer team capping off an outstanding four year career both in the classroom and on the pitch. Colin grew up in Norwich, England and knows first hand what it means to serve in the capacity of Community Soccer Officer, a position historically developed in European soccer clubs to promote the wonderful game of soccer in and amongst the youth of the community a club serves.  As a youth player in England, Colin received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Bury Town Reserves; the Suffolk County Under 18 Player of the Year Award in 2000; and the Hobart High School Sportsman of the Year Award that same year. And most impressively, for those who follow FA soccer in England, Colin led his teams to the championship of the heralded English Schools FA Cup Final in 2000 and again in 2003 when he earned the English Schools FA Cup MVP Award.

Now serving you and hundreds of other youth soccer families in Columbia, Colin’s number one focus will be to oversee, energize, promote and grow our recreational youth soccer program to ensure that our Club’s recreational families are getting the attention and service they deserve!  Recreational soccer, when kept in proper perspective, should abound with  fun-filled opportunities for children and their families to enjoy not just the game itself but the social and club camaraderie which comes with it.  As such,  Colin will not coach in the Academy and will not coach a Select team in the Club.  Rather, on weeknights he will be circulating in and among our recreational teams’ practice sessions lending a helping hand and words of encouragement to players and coaches and on Saturday’s Colin will be visible at matches making sure the recreational program is fulfilling its mission and purpose - exposing children to a little bit of soccer and a lot of fun!
