SC United Bantams Announces Tanner Osborne as USL W League Head Coach

April 2, 2026, Columbia, SC – South Carolina United FC announced today that Tanner Osborne has been named Head Coach of the SC United Bantams USL W League team.

A native of Lexington, Osborne currently serves as an ECNL coach within the South Carolina United FC girls program and brings a well-rounded background of collegiate, USL, and club experience to the Bantams.

Osborne has over a decade of collegiate coaching experience on both the men’s and women’s sides, including time at Presbyterian College where he served as an assistant coach for both programs and later as Associate Head Coach for the women’s team. During his eight years with the women’s program, he helped guide the team back to the Big South Conference Tournament in 2019, improve overall results, and develop numerous All-Conference players.

Following his time at Presbyterian, Osborne spent time with the women’s program at the University of South Carolina during the spring of 2024 before transitioning into his current role within the ECNL.

His impact at the collegiate level also includes helping develop players who advanced to the professional ranks, including Jesse Newton and Carolay Ospina.

Osborne is no stranger to the Bantams program, having spent eight years within the organization on both the men’s and women’s sides. He served six seasons on staff under Lee Morris, contributing to a period of significant success that included a 2021 USL League Two Deep South Division Championship and multiple individual honors.

He later transitioned to the women’s side, working alongside TK Abderahman to help grow the program. Over the past two seasons, the staff has guided more than seven players into the professional ranks, with players now competing internationally in Australia, Iceland, Costa Rica, and England.

At the youth level, Osborne has also made a strong impact within the South Carolina United ECNL girls program, helping guide 39 players to the collegiate level over the past two years.

In addition, Osborne has been involved with the South Carolina Olympic Development Program on both the boys and girls sides and most recently served on staff at the ODP South Region girls camp in 2025. He has also coached at Lexington High School, his alma mater.

A former four-year player at Presbyterian College, Osborne holds a degree in psychology with a minor in athletic coaching. He also holds a USSF B License, a UEFA C Certificate, and United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Licenses 1 and 2.

“Tanner has been an important part of our club for a long time, and we’re excited to see him step into this role,” said Executive Director Rob Strickland. “His experience across the college game, USL, and youth development — along with his commitment to our players — makes him a great fit to lead our W League team and continue building opportunities for our female athletes.”

Osborne will lead the Bantams into the upcoming USL W League season as the club continues to strengthen its pathway for players at every level.

SC United Bantams Announce Mac Thomalla as USL League Two Head Coach

April 1, 2026, Columbia, SC – South Carolina United FC announced today the appointment of Mac Thomalla as the new Head Coach of the South Carolina United Bantams USL League Two team.

Thomalla currently serves as an assistant coach at Wofford College and brings a strong background of collegiate and club experience to the Bantams. He joined Wofford in 2025 after spending two seasons at Xavier University, where he played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history.

During the 2023 season, Thomalla helped guide Xavier to a 9-4-6 overall record and a 4-1-3 mark in Big East play. The Musketeers captured the program’s first-ever Big East Tournament title, defeating #3 Georgetown on penalty kicks, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to Xavier, Thomalla spent three seasons at McKendree University, where he helped the Bearcats compile a 19-16-12 record and develop multiple All-GLVC performers. He has also held coaching roles with St. Louis Scott Gallagher, including serving as head coach at the Elite level and working within the ECNL platform.

A former player at McKendree, Thomalla earned all-conference honors in 2019 and was part of a conference championship team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Originally from Reading, England, Thomalla holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education from McKendree. He also holds a USSF C coaching license.

South Carolina United FC and the Soccer Parenting Association today announce a partnership agreement by which all families associated with SCUFC will now receive free access to the educational content on the Soccer Parent Resource Center platform – SoccerParentResourceCenter.com.

The Soccer Parent Resource Center seeks to improve and enhance the experience for youth soccer players by engaging and supporting the players’ parents on topics related to the Body, Mind, Coach, Parent, Next Level, and the Game as well as providing coach education related to establishing positive relationships with players and parents.

Providing a positive youth sporting experience where all children feel inspired, develop important life skills, and establish healthy habits they will take with them for life must be a top priority for all youth sport organizations.

YOUTH SOCCER CLUB STEPS UP TO ADDRESS NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE OF OFFICIALS

In an effort to combat the ongoing nationwide shortage of referees, South Carolina United FC recently organized and hosted two one-day referee clinics. These clinics were a huge success, with 60 people attending and becoming certified referees.

Prior to attending the clinic, all participants were required to complete online training modules to ensure they were well-prepared for the in-person clinics. The in-person clinics were broken into 2 parts: a classroom session and an on-field training session held at South Carolina United FC facilities.

To encourage registration and maximize participation, South Carolina United FC offered an exciting incentive to the first 50 individuals who signed up. These individuals received a complimentary referee uniform starter kit, equipping them with everything they need to start their refereeing journey.

“As the demand for referees continues to rise, we feel it is our responsibility to address the shortage and provide opportunities for interested individuals to become certified referees,” commented Rob Strickland, SCUFC Executive Director. “We are proud to have organized these successful clinics and remain committed to supporting the growth of soccer in our community.”

SCUFC WELCOMES EMILY JERMSTAD AS SAFEGUARDING AND SUPPORT OFFICER

South Carolina United FC soccer club is pleased to announce the hiring of Emily Jermstad as the new Safeguarding and Support Officer. In this role, Emily will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all players, coaches, and staff within the club, as well as providing support and resources for any individuals in need.

Executive Director, Rob Strickland, expressed his excitement for Emily's appointment, stating, "The role of Safeguarding and Support Officer is crucial to our club's commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved. Emily's experience and dedication make her the perfect fit for this important position, and we are confident that she will make a positive impact on our community."

With a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Lander University, a Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Carolina, and having served as an elementary school social worker, Emily brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in safeguarding practices and support services. Emily has also been a dedicated player for South Carolina United FC from the age of 3 to 18 years old.
